SUMMARY:Virtual Session: What Happens In Therapy?
DESCRIPTION:Therapy can feel like a mystery until you’ve actually experienced it, so we’re pulling back the curtain. Join us on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. for a virtual conversation with licensed mental health professionals as they break down what therapy really looks like, who it’s for, and how to find the right support.\nWe’ll dig into the questions people often wonder about but rarely ask out loud: Why do people go to therapy? What’s the difference between psychiatry and psychology? What actually happens in a session? And what options exist for people without easy access to money or transportation?\nWhether you’re curious about starting therapy for the first time, supporting a friend or family member, or just want to better understand your own mental health, this conversation is for you.\n\n\nMeet the Speakers\nDr. Nekeshia Hammond\nDr. Nekeshia Hammond is a licensed psychologist, speaker, and USA TODAY best-selling author who is passionate about helping people build healthier, happier lives. With 17 years of experience, she has worked with children, teens, adults, families, schools, and organizations to support mental wellness and resilience. Known for her warm, down-to-earth approach, Dr. Hammond believes that taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health, and that asking for help is a sign of strength — not weakness.\nMary Blazier-Higman, LMHC\nMary Blazier-Higman is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor dedicated to creating a counseling space that feels safe, welcoming, and even a little fun. She works with children, adolescents, and adults on a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, religious issues, self-esteem, life-phase transitions, and trauma recovery. Mary believes therapy can be more than just talking — she often incorporates gardening, mindfulness, art and music, walk-and-talk sessions in local parks, rock climbing, yoga, and games into her work, using hands-on and in-the-moment experiences to help clients heal. Her collaborative, client-centered approach (occasional cameos from her dog, Skipper, included) helps clients feel empowered and supported as they work toward their goals.\n\n\nInterested in joining?\nEmail Director of Community Programs Krystle Pitts at krystle@ryannecefoundation.org ( mailto:krystle@ryannecefoundation.org ) to receive the Zoom link and calendar invite.\n \n
