Ryan Nece Foundation Students Gain Real-World Skills with McKibbon Hospitality

On Tuesday, December 2nd, students in the Ryan Nece Foundation’s community-based Student Service Program had the opportunity to engage in a powerful evening of learning, leadership development, and real-world preparation thanks to a special partnership with McKibbon Hospitality. Both juniors and seniors gathered for their monthly meeting, one filled with reflection, planning, and professional growth.

The junior class kicked off the evening by sharing their vision boards, each one highlighting their personal goals, values, and dreams for the future. Their session centered on key lessons from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, with a deeper dive into Habits 2 and 3. Students explored how Habit 2 encourages teens to “begin with the end in mind” by creating a clear plan rooted in their mission and values. They also discussed Habit 3, “Put First Things First,” which focuses on managing priorities, understanding urgency versus importance, and preventing problems by staying organized. These conversations helped students reflect on how intentional planning can shape a meaningful future.

Junior student Justin from Newsome High School shared, “We reviewed how Habit Two encourages us to create a clear plan by envisioning our goals and making choices that align with our values and personal mission… Then we moved into Habit Three, which highlights the importance of prioritizing tasks based on urgency and importance. Finally, the meeting concluded by speaking with our guest speakers Mike Dickey and Chris Williamson with McKibbon Hospitality. They explained the importance of kindness as a leader and in professional life.”

Meanwhile, the seniors focused on preparing for life beyond high school. They arrived with resumes in hand for an interactive workshop led by McKibbon Hospitality leaders Ashley Dixon and Scott Pejsa. The speakers covered essential skills including communication, resume building, job application strategies, and best practices for interviews and follow-up. Students walked away empowered and equipped with tools to approach future opportunities with confidence.

Senior student Ava from Plant High School reflected, “This was not a normal monthly meeting. We learned what to include in a resume, how to make one, and what to do after you apply for a job. Our seniors loved the lesson, and it was another great day with the Ryan Nece Foundation!”

The December meeting showcased the strength of community partnerships and the shared commitment to helping young leaders grow. A huge thank you to McKibbon Hospitality for investing in our students and reinforcing the Ryan Nece Foundation’s mission to empower the next generation through service, leadership, and personal development.
