Freshman year goes fast. But for Mikalah, a first-year student at Florida Southern College and recent graduate of the Ryan Nece Foundation’s Student Service Program, it’s been anything but quiet.
In just one year, Mikalah has packed in more leadership milestones than most students see in four. A few weeks ago, she attended Florida Southern’s Student Life Awards ceremony, and walked away with a lot more than applause: Mikalah was officially sworn in as a Presidential Ambassador for her sophomore year, receiving her red jacket as a symbol of the commitment she’s already proven she can keep.
But that wasn’t all. That same evening, Mikalah was named MOCs LEAD Student of the Year, a prestigious recognition from a freshman leadership program dedicated to developing first-year students into emerging leaders. It’s a fitting honor for someone who has spent this year showing up, speaking up, and growing.
And then there’s the campaign. Mikalah recently wrapped up her run for president of Florida Southern’s Multicultural Student Council (MSC), and she won! Next year, she’ll serve as MSC President, advocating for and alongside her campus community.
Mikalah credits the Ryan Nece Foundation with helping sharpen the skills and mindset that made all of this possible. In her own words:
“I think the Ryan Nece Foundation has shown me what it means to take initiative and show up for our society.”
We couldn’t be more proud, Mikalah. Keep leading! The world is ready for you.
