Power of Giving Through Kidney Transplant

On Saturday September 17th, Ryan Nece Foundation Director of Programs Krystle Pitts participated in her 8th National Kidney Foundation Kidney Walk. The National Kidney Foundation raises awareness of kidney disease, funds research, provides assistance to those who suffering from chronic kidney disease, and advocates for change.

On Sunday, a few of our Student Service Program members volunteered to help at the event. Together we set up, decorated, and checked people in.

When the staff mentioned their speaker was out sick, Krystle stepped up to speak before the walk. In her speech, Krystle talked about ways to give and encourage others even when times are tough.

“As a transplant recipient who had stage five chronic kidney disease, this organization and this walk mean a lot to me. It was an honor to share my story and talk about the power of giving.” – Krystle Pitts, Director of Programs

For our students, they shared volunteering for the Tampa Kidney Walk was an eye-opening experience.

“After we set everything up, Armiyah and I gave out goodies to everyone who came out for the walk. We passed out race bibs and safety pins. Afterwards, everyone cheered on the walkers as they came back from finishing their laps around Water Works Park. Ms. Krystle and a physician gave beautiful speeches on how much the event means to them. Overall, it was a great experience for volunteers, and those brave individuals who completed the laps.” – Stephanie, junior at Pinellas Park High School.

In her recap of the event, Stephanie shared how the National Kidney Foundation is a great organization, which receives donations and raises awareness for those who need kidney donors, are kidney donors, received kidney transplants, or just wanted to help out.

Organ donation is an incredible, life-saving tribute to our #PowerofGiving philosophy!
