On the second day of our senior service trip, we woke up in the morning to the breakfast in the hotel and prepared for the day of service ahead.
Siete Quillas
We returned to the beach and met up with Siete Quillas again, but instead of turtle watching, we were there for a beach cleanup. We picked up cigarette butts, which contribute harm to the community through water contamination. Did you know one cigarette butt contaminates 1,000 liters of ocean water? We also picked up small pieces of trash like caps and plastic pieces and entered them into an international database for record keeping. By the end of our walk up and down the shoreline, we had cleaned up over 500 pieces of trash that otherwise would harm the beautiful coast of Puerto Rico. After the beach cleanup, we ate an authentic Puerto Rican lunch at Ana’s Cafe.

Humane Society of Puerto Rico
After lunch we headed to the Humane Society of Puerto Rico, where we were able to walk dogs. Additionally, we washed dogs, cleaned dog crates, moved stock, played with kitties, and saw a pig and two horses. At the Humane Society, many of us started off walking dogs, and later split into groups by task. A few of us bathed the dogs while others cleaned their cages and filled their food or helped with heavy labor.

Wrapping Up
Afterwards, we had some downtime between the service and dinner. A group of us went to the pool and explored the mini waterpark. For dinner, we ordered authentic Puerto Rican food again. We ate at the hotel and got to know each other better. Finally, we ended the day early to prepare for the long and early day tomorrow.
