Solana Rostick is a member of the 2017 Student Service Program (SSP). Currently, Solana is a junior at Wofford College studying Art History and African American Studies.
Solana is a campus leader involved with various organizations including the Wofford Anti-Racism Coalition, Wofford Women of Color, and Kappa Alpha Theta. At Wofford, Solana has continued to spread the power of giving through her involvement with the Bonner Scholars program, a prestigious national service scholarship program. As a Bonner Scholar, Solana volunteers at local farmers markets and is involved with the Spartanburg community. This past March, Solana was featured in the “A Girl in a Museum World” showcasing her goals to become a Modern and Contemporary Art curator in New York City with a focus on giving a voice to the black community through the collection and exhibition of art. Solana is applying what she learned from the SSP from putting “if not you, then who” into action. In her future, Solana hopes to create pop-up art shows in predominantly black communities featuring the works of BIPOC artists. Solana hopes to provide predominantly black communities with access to museums and the arts, which will help create opportunity and spark interest for youth. Hosting in these neighborhoods will provide a creative and safe outlet for those who feel museums do not welcome or understand their experiences. Solana advocates for expanding accessibility of the arts and museums because they open a world of creativity for everyone.
